Ageless Wisedom

1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
3. You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
4. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
5. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
6. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
7. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
8. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
9. You cannot build character and courage by destroying men’s initiative and independence.
10. And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

like this one...

Don’t be too hard on yourself. But don’t be too easy on yourself either. Push yourself steadily and persistently toward meaningful success and achievement. But don’t beat yourself up when you happen to fall short. Remember that most things are rarely as good as they seem or as bad as they seem. Take the ups and the downs in stride, without letting them throw you off track. Act with confidence, but not with arrogance. Live with humility. --Ralph Marston

We're jammin in the name of the Lord!

“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively” ― Bob Marley

I love the fact that Bob Marley said this.

Love this one...

The Universe is like a grocery store, your thoughts and beliefs are the products for sale, the thoughts that you allow yourself to accept are the items you buy, and what you bought, you MUST USE to prepare your meal, and then eat; so, make your thoughts positive and sweet, after all, since you are the chef, why cook using bad ingredients?
Enjoy your meal while you have a seat at the table!

Let's be safe out there people

If you are like me, then you frequently push the envelop in the heat. Heat and humidity combined make for some serious challenges to endurance athletes. This effect is measured as the heat index -- a composite scale that indicates the level of danger. Let's all be safe out there this summer:

Atypical posting here...

I don't usually post stories like this, but this one struck me. Its an extremely sad story about a jogger killed by a pack of pit bulls in a rural part of Los Angeles. I can identify with this problem first hand, because on occasion I've encountered dog packs face-to-face while out jogging. On one such an occasion occurred in the fall of last year. I was trail running around the lake where we live and heard running behind me. I looked back and saw four large dogs in full chase, one right at my heels. I quickly found higher ground and grab a stick and swung just as the closest dog leapt towards me. I ducked, he missed, I and charged him yelling and swinging the big branch as an unwieldy club. That seemed to run them off. I'm 200lbs, physically very capable, maybe I was more than they anticipated, maybe they were just out for a run and a little too curious. Thankfully they weren't a pitbull pack from hell.

Unfortunately I had another run in with a pack a week later which did have a pit in the lead and changed my mind forever on this topic. I had learned to carry some protection from the first encounter so I had a large knife at the ready. The pit bull lead dog wasn't aggressive and they moved on. As for me, I got spooked. The knife wouldn't have made much difference, I realized I was still way under-armed. If a pack of pits turn on you there's not much to do but get away and fire from a safe distance. And for the Police officer in the story who shot one of the animals the dog just ran off. Anyone who's been in this situation knows what I'm describing is a high adrenaline scenario. Prayer is always a good thing, but either way I don't run in the woods unarmed any more. My best advice is bear spray, a Glock and keen awareness. Say a little prayer for the lady in that story and her family and read her story if you have some time today.
